The moment she stepped out of the car he knew they were in trouble. I really don't think you should take it inside, he said. Nothing he could do about the shoes she was wearing. He'd told her to dress down.

A crowd was surging against the entrance. He could hear glass breaking and he echo of barking dogs. It’s the new era, he said. We've got to get used to it.  Just then the doors burst open and a phalanx of burly men emerged propelling an intruder ahead of them.  The crowd pushed forward and they were carried in on the surge. Lets get to our seats, he said. He wanted to get away from the pressing bodies and the barking dogs. But they didn't search us, she cried. Come now, he said, we know we don't have weapons. Yes, but they don't. My dear, he said, why don't you just relax and enjoy the event ? It's not every day that you can hear someone who has spent the last twenty-five years on the island.
